Arcana Unearthed or 3.5 PH???

I don't know why, Merric (maybe watching all those threads over on Dragonsfoot), but when I read this phrase from you, I got the giggles! :D

I really don't blame you, Henry.

Considering my history of defending 3E as D&D, it's... interesting. ;)

(Henry - have I ever told you how much I've appreciated you and Piratecat posting on dragonsfoot? It's always something that brightens my day when I read your posts.)

I can only say that there are certain features of D&D - elves, dwarves, wizards, fighters, rogues, magic missile spells - that make me feel "at home". Truthfully, I don't really consider Planescape or Dark Sun to be "true D&D" - they just twist a few basic assumptions I have about the game too much!

Again, I think AU is going to be exceptional. I'm using the variant death's door rules in my two 3E campaigns at the moment - much appreciated by my players.

But, being really a different setting for D&D as much as anything, it doesn't excite me as much as a new Dungeon adventure set in the World of Greyhawk. (Or one of Gary's anecdotes about his original Greyhawk campaign. ;))

Cheers!

I've already got 3.5, but I will also be getting AU. Not to run the diamond throne campaign, and I won't be using any of the races, but to steal magic systems, new spells and some of the classes.

I'm always interested in rules, and I really like the sound of some of the rules which Monte is including in 3.5

Cheers

Exactly. I love rules and more class options for players. I am buying both.

Since I playtested AU I have to say that it seems a bit cooler than 3.5. I am currently building alternate Champion and Totem Warrior classes.

Either way I'll get both books, but I have to say that lots of AU will make it into my campaign :)

I'm getting both. 3.5 this friday I beleive. Its AU I'm eagerly waiting for. 3.5 is just going to be a decent source of some house rules. But many of the things I would never use.

Hmm... revised versions of books I already own, which will require just as many house rules as the old versions, and which are available for free online, or a completely new book with many great rules and flavor additions. Tough choice. ;)

I'm not even a Monte Cook fanboy. I just think AU will be a far superior product, based on the previews for it an 3.5.

AU no contest. Of course, I already have the 3.5 books, but my entire group is looking forward to AU. We could care less about 3.5.

Merric, none of us are really interested in the AU races either. Heck, I never even used standard PHB races. I mold them to fit my campaign world.

It is the magic system, classes etc that my entire group is looking forward too.

I really should get over to Dragonsfoot more often.

I'll end up with both, but AU is what I plan on implementing first.

If you plan on using both I would think that AU is going to be easier to implement. All your previous adventures should be compatible, so the classes won't be exactly right meh, and the fact that AU is totally new will make players a lot more cautious and less confused than implementing 3.5 seems likely to be with people only discovering old assumptions have changed midway through implementing them.
