Arcane Mark?

I'd let it work both way. You get a bonus on your Scry check (uh? what? 3.5.? I do not see what you're talking about) if you scry on someone or something you marked.

On the other hand, it's easier for somebody else to scry on you if he has your arcane mark handy -- be it on himself, an item, or somebody else whose next to him.

Also, I consider a place you have arcane marked to be easier to access in through teleportation. Familiarity is increased by one step. In a guildhall, you may find a wall covered by arcane marks of wizards past and present.

It's like a label maker. Once my sorcerer got Arcane Mark he put his name on all his stuff, and on his friends (as noted above, to check later for imposters).

Note that using it as a hostile action is not necessarily possible - unlike most spells, arcane mark has a range of 0ft, not touch. That would seem to suggest that the wizard would have to, at the least, be grappling the target to make the mark.

This may techinacally be a House Rules response to a rules post, but I'm working on a work for self-publication that focuses on Wiz/Sor levels 1-5. I love the notion of the spell Arcane Mark, but also don't see much value in it usually. As such, a few of my new feats and spells revolve around the use of that spell. If you're interested, leave me an e-mal addy here and I'll send you the relevant bits.

I like the idea of using it to mark friends. But to be really safe, I'd use a "double mark." Like so:

First, put arcane marks on your party's left (or right, doesn't matter) arms. Do this to all party members, even mounts, familiars, animal companions, and other pets.
Then, wrap bandages around the marks marks.

Guess the anime reference. :D

I suppose he is speaking of the "Connection", but that wouldn't work that way.

It means that the caster of Scrying has the "Connection" at hand, not the target.

:uhoh: Gah. Forgot where I read about it a while ago. It was either Unearthed Arcana or Dragon/Dungeon that had a page (more or less) on uses for arcane mark. I'll have to look it up again in the morning.

Don't know the reference (don't watch that much anime) but an interesting roleplay option, though if I recall arcane mark allows you to make the mark only visible to you (without further magical aid), further throwing off any likely imposters.
