Archaic Firearms Rules for d20 Modern

Does anyone know if there are good rules for archaic firearms, like old Revolutionary War muskets, an arquebus, or a Civil War rifle out there?

Where might one look if they wanted good, solid rules for these in d20 Modern?

Thank you for your time.

We at Malladin's Gate have our own black powder firearms rules, which are very compatible with D20 Modern rules. They were written before D20M came out, but coinidentally both systes use a 2 damage dice system, with our damages working in nicely with the existing D20M damage systems. The only thing that doesn't particularly fit with our rules and D20M firearms is our critical damage (x4), but if you just drop this they become a very nice weapon for D20M. The rules also cover misfire chances and alternative systems for weapon proficiencies and rifle but/pistol whip attacks.

These rules can now be found in two different supplements, Unearthed Adventurers and DarkLore Campaign Primer. DarkLore is cheapest of these at $5, and the money goes to EN World, anyway.

Cheerio,

Ben

Civil War muskets (the primary weapon of the Union army, though they had started investing in repeater rifles by that time) are easy. 1 round to fire, 2 rounds to reload. The average soldier could fire 3 times per minute, or 20 seconds per shot, 3 rounds to reload and fire accounts for 18 seconds. This was the age of the paper cartridge, which helped to speed things up. Older weapons would take a bit longer to reload, 3 or 4 rounds, plus one to fire, assuming proficiency with the weapon. Anybody unproficient will probably take twice as long.

As for range, it won't be very long, under 50 feet per increment, and no more than 10 feet for stuff like dueling pistols.

As for damage, well, I'd have to plug caliber, bullet mass, and muzzle velocity into a calculator to figure that out, however, I expect most will be in the 2d6 range.

Sidewinder: Recoiled is a western game due out soon, that uses d20 Modern rules. In addition to the famous western guns, it will have older models detailed. The list includes a couple of muskets, plus some pre-civil war rifles such as the Hawken. Of course many of the guns used in the old west were actually produced during the civil war.

It may be just what you are looking for, since it is based on d20 Modern. Unfortunately, it isn't available quite yet. The pdf version should be out by the end of the month.
