Are artifacts epic items?

Hi everyone.

A simple question. Could for example, the Mace of Cuthbert, a greater artifact if Im not mistaken, penetrate the damage reduction of a creature with DR 10/epic ?

Only if its enhancement is +6 or greater. (In other words, no.) The only Artifact I know of that can overcome /Epic Damage Reduction is the Sword of Kas.

Would make a good house rule, though.

thats what I was thinking. I find extrange that MAJOR ARTIFACTS, being unique and tied to a god or demigod, arent powerful enough to overcome the damage reduction.
