Are D&D and WotC dying?

First Post
I'm a little discouraged after all the layoffs at Wizards of the Coast, out-of-date links on the D&D sections of their official D&D sight, the eTools customer neglect, that D&D is no longer important to those at Wizards of the Coast. As I have lost much respect for WotC over customer neglect and ignored emails, I can only hope that they (Hasbro or WotC?) choose to sell D&D away to a company or being, who once again, will devote some concern toward the game and the fans as opposed to soley devoting themselves to profit.

While I have some concerns about what future WOTC products will be like and consistancy I am not worried that either they are D&D are doomed. They will be merely getting outside work a lot more often than before. This means that the quality of work could vary a lot more than it generally does now. Though I suppose they could go to the same outside writers/artists all the time.

As for D&D, I think D20 shows that the game as a whole does not depend on offical D&D. If there came a time when there were no more offical DMGs and PHBs I can think of several D20 companies that would be more than capable of producing a new standard system.

Dunno about the web site or corporate shenanigans, but product-wise...

I bought Monster Manual II recently, and I'm very happy with it. It lends a monster tone to the game which MM didn't quite deliver on, and which I sorely missed. With this book, 3E D&D finally has a monster palette which I dig stylistically. The situation should only get better with the upcoming Tome of Horrors.

Thank you Jeff Grubb, Rich Redman, Steve Winter, Ed Bonny and all others involved, you've done a bang up job on this one as far as I'm concerned. :)

Heh. Here we go again... :p

Ya. Wizards is going to have some loss and thier D&D books may suffer a little becasue of it, but I really think you need to look at the whole d20 Community. It's not going anywhere and many of these companies are producing better books then Wizards.

This reminds me of what I have been hearing about Apple for fifteen years. I am a big Mac fan and have had to hear rumors of Apple's downfall every year even though the company continues to produce the technology that everyone else wants to copy?

Sound a lot like my other favorite hobby?

For both companies, I'll believe it when I actually see it.

Are D&D and WotC dying? Of course not. D&D won't die until no one is playing it anymore. That isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Isn't it too early for this thread/topic? You are supposed to wait until WotC has another round of layoffs before asking about the end of WotC, D&D, and the OGL.
