Are dice too powerful?

Not only do d4's make for some nasty caltrops when lodged in carpeting but every single one of my players use them, which is clearly indicative of them being broken. Thoughts?

A friend of mine once had to spend 1d4 (can't remember exactly) days in a hospital because he slipped on a d100 and broke his leg. And everyone I know irl who have played DnD have at at least once stepped on those damn d4's. Dice are dangerous I tell you. :)

That everyone uses them is not in and of itself an indication that they are broken. Only when your players go for them in preference to all the others do we have evidence of breakage.

Sure, my players all use d4s. But they also use 6s, 8s, 10s, 12s, and 20s. Heck, I've got a couple who occasionally break out a d30, even with the commonly known problems inherent with it. So, I don't see much evidence that d4s are too much.

That knowledge and 100 d2's will get you a cup of coffee... :p

On a d6 dice are:
1. Useful
2. Funny
3. Ingenious
4. Dangerous
5. Broken
6. Intelligent and bent on world domination

[the sound of a dice rolling]

"Hmm that's strange. I got a 6. Let's try again."

[the sound of a dice rolling]

*Runs screaming out of the house.*

Ah good. We are in complete agreement then. All an archer or swordsman needs to conquer the game is to forsake all dice except for a d20 and a d8.

d6's are even worse. All they do is promote pyromaniac sorcerers to the exclusion of all else. Perhaps they'll fix this in 3.5 Pro or the upcoming 3E ME.
