Thank you very much for your responses. Now I know how the ability of gamers who are on EnWorld and like to answer polls to deal with relationships. :p These results should hold true if the above mentioned group consists of less than 63,504 people (again :p ). And the anecdotal evidence for the other people in your gaming group(s) was especially enlightening. Maybe it holds true for the gaming population overall, most older gamers I know are married, I have met a small number of divorcees who have no interested in getting married, a somewhat larger set of people who have had a relationship in the past, and relatively few people who have never had a relationship (I was in that group until about 32 and my last gf was in that group until she met me).

I still don't get what relationship status has to do with being a loner. Someone who's never dated a girl but has 50 (male, presumably) friends and is socially active with them is a loner? A guy out in the boonies living completely isolated from society as a hermit save for his spouse of many years and the game group he plays with online every saturday, rather than go into a place with other people to play face to face is not a loner?

My Group(s), age 26-32:

- Marry Soon: 1
- Long Term Relationship: 9
- Short Term/Alternate with Single Status: 2
- "Chronic" Single: 2

BUT QFT StreamOfTheSky point.

This poll confirms we are squares, not loners. But the low divorce number is not picking up the remarries, of which we seem to have several in this thread.

Following up on SotS: introverted people get into a relationship eventually. And like interacting with people under certain, probably more structured, circumstances. Like a game.

Those real extroverts out there just like people. They don't need activities to enjoy hanging with others.

Freaks.

I'm a loner... I'm forced to be. I come from a race of evil dark elves. For this I am hated, feared, and forced to walk alone save for the few companions I do have... Guenhwyvar my trusted pet and friend.. Wulfga-

Err wait... That's not me, that's that stupid Dark Elf guy.

I'm happily married, and have lots of friends.

I wonder if this poll would be different if you asked what we were all like back in High School? :P

I married at 20, I've been married for 17 years and we have 4 kids.
Close enough here for me too: married at 22, over 16 years married and 4 kids.

Of my immediate group, 5 others are married (two of them to each other, no less) and two are single (well, the newish guy; I'm actually not 100% sure if he's got a gf or not.) One of them is a perpetual batchelor, so he kinda fits the stereotype, I guess. In five years of knowing him, I've not known him to have even a date much less a girlfriend. Although we like him well enough. :)

Of the other gamers I know, but who are not in my group, I'd say that it certainly seems like a statistically higher percentage of them are romantic loners, but that might be a question of both selection and perception bias. Other than gamers, which I have a reason to hang out with because of gaming, I don't otherwise interact much with too many confirmed bachelors.

If we were complete losers we wouldn't be gaming.

Because gaming does require a group of people to get together, game for about 15 minutes, then shoot the breeze for 40, then take a bathroom break for five.

Then look at porn.

I've met a few, but I'm not one. I've met a few who've been in a relationship long enough to produce some crotch-spawn and then became single loaners again. They are the ones that I am most saddened by.

I have been married twice, and am in a long-term committed relationship that I hope to have last until I finally totter over for the last time at 109 years of age.
