Are hobby shops like porn shops?

One more comparison...usually more males than females in both sorts of shops.

I went into one of our local game shops recently and was looking around, hoping to find something for my husband, and keeping my eye open for a new mini for myself.

The guy behind the counter (who owns the shop) turns to me and says "Shopping for any guy I know?"

I told him that I was looking for myself and my husband. He just said that if I needed help to let him know. Then, when he got into a discussion with one of the other guys in the store, and they began talking about Drizzt, I thought I would chime in. They just looked at me and said, "You know who Drizzt is?" I almost exploded...

I was so annoyed. Why did he just assume that I was shopping for someone else and not myself?? Grrrr...Arrrghh...

At any rate, I didn't end up buying anything because their selection has dwindled so much, and because he was so dumbfounded about me being there without a guy.

So, it's kind of like a porn shop in that respect, too. Guys are usually shocked when chicks enter and start shopping around by themselves (or at least this shop owner was!!)

Not that I shop for porn or anything...

The major difference for me is that when I go into a game shop and I happen to find something I have written (nothing yet, but I can keep hoping can't I?). It would fill me with a certain pride.

Whenever I go into a porn shop and see a tape in which I have stared in (I suppose you American's don't get tapes by Henry Silwa - and I have been in two - my ill spent childhood) . I get a sudden headache.

The only negative thing I have to say is that both game stores and porn shops have a lousy collection. I can't order lingerie that does look like porn movie rejects. Nor can I get the hard to find sourcebooks at the local gaming store that I want.

But in both places the clerks are nice, and women seem to be a more of an exception then a rule.

I'm insulted that you called me Mom! And I'm not insulted by this thread, I just find it illuminating that mt theory that the male only thinks with one part of his anatomy, and believe me, it's NOT the brain.

Not that many people would scream "serious intellectual activity!"
I might, on occasion, but not often. I'm that kind of crazy.
