Are spells considered ranged?

Seems like a silly question, and maybe it is but I'm noticing that some creatures in the MM have things that reduce damage they take from ranged attacks. Is there a difference between ranged martial attacks and ranged spell attacks?

Every power defines what sort of attack it is: melee, ranged, close, or area. If a creature has resistance against ranged attacks, it doesn't matter if the attack is a weapon or a spell. If it's ranged, it qualifies; if it's not, it doesn't. (Now, if it says ranged weapon attacks, that's different, but that's not what you asked. )

So in answer, some spells are considered ranged.
