Are the alternate base classes becoming core?

More on-topic - I don't think that anything outside the SRD can really be considered 'core'.

It may be that a 4e eventually appears (and it does away with the SRD entirely), but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it :)

Is everything inside the SRD considered 'core'? Because that adds Psion, Wilder, Soulknife and Psychic Warrior to the mix.

Take this following post with a grain of salt, because I've never read anything about these classes (Scout, Warlock, ect).

I came into 3e very pleased, because after so many years of 2e, I could now custmize characters a lot more. If you wanted a scout in 2e, you had to be a Fighter/Thief or a Ranger. In 3e, if you want a scout, play a Ranger, a Rogue, or a multiclass of both with a sprinkling of other classes as well if you wish. You don't need these new classes.

What's the difference between a Warlock and a Sorcerer anyway?

I thought 3e introduced Prestige Classes to handle additional specializations. I don't see why other classes are needed. 11 is plenty. I "grew up" playing OD&D, where there were 7 classes, and 3 of them were Dwarf, Elf, and Halfling.

I run two campaigns.

Campaign 1 classes:
Fighter/Paladin
Druid
Cleric/Fighter
Fighter
Rogue/Wizard

Campaign 2 classes:
Psychic Warrior/Soulknife (gestalt)
Sorcerer/Warlock (gestalt)
Cleric
Armor Adept (adapted d20 superhero class)

Last I heard, "core" meant, "in the PHB, DMG, and MM". There's stuff in the SRD which is not core. There's stuff not in the SRD (like XP awards) that are in the core.

Sorcerors are wizards who don't need to memorize specific spell lists.

Warlocks are supervillains with innate abilities that let them effectively have an unlimited-use ray spell-like ability that outdamages most if not all weapons in the SRD.

Since none of my players have bought any book other than a PH, this is not an issue with me. I have bought a few books and I pick and choose what is added. So far the only "core" classes I have added are a revised Ranger (we're playing 3.0) and I am thinking of adding the Factotum (renamed the Adventurer). None of the players seem to care what is out there, they like what they have.

I agree. Otherwise, how do we generate characters.

I'd like to know what classes have traction out of the official class list

At 175 classes with many being dups, I think the game could stand some weeding out of classes.

That said, I'd like the see more of the Tome of Magic and the Heroes of Horror classes in play.
