Are the Effects of 'Contagion' Contagious?

Hmmm, well there you go. That's not in the SRD (and new to 3.5).

From the 3.5 SRD:

SRD said:
Disease: DC
Blinding sickness: Ingested 16
Cackle fever: Inhaled 16
Demon fever: Injury 18
Devil chills: Injury 14
Filth fever: Injury 12
Mindfire: Inhaled 12
Mummy rot: Contact 20
Red ache: Injury 15
Shakes: Contact 13
Slimy doom: Contact 14

Note DCs of Injested, Inhaled, Injury, and Contact. Slimy Doom and Mummy Rot are both Contact diseases.

Don't forget disease vectors either. I would rule that an "injury" disease could be transmited by a flea/mosquito/etc bitting an infected person and then bitting a victim.

Insect vectors are going to be limited in the range of diseases they can transmit. Don't forget the disease has to be able to survive in the insect vector between transmision and not kill the insect host before it can transmit the disease. Also the infection type would factor in. A primarily lung/repsiratory system disease would probably not transmit well through blood infection.

Finally the presence of a resevoir species that carries the disease, but is not killed/seriously affected by it, I believe would be necessary for wide transmission since the life of individual insect vectors is generally not very long.

You know, John, you just gave me a very nifty idea for your PCs. Thanks :]

Plus, it is not new to 3.5 - check page 75 of your DMG, which has the same info.

Geez, I must be blind. It's in the 3.0 DMG and SRD, it's in the 3.5 DMG and SRD, it's everywhere (just not a great column header in 3.5 SRD). My bad.

Don't worry, that can happen to everyone. If it helps, you did get me to wonder if I imagined that part, given that you are usually right about those things.

Aren't most diseases only contagious during the incubation period? Contagion bypasses that, so I wouldn't think it would be contagious... especially since there's a spell in some book (I think I saw reference to it in PGtF, not 100% sure tho) that says its 'as per contagion, but subject is contagious'... that would tend to imply that they aren't if inflicted by contagion.

But contagious?

Maybe your are thinking of Contagion, Mass, which is as Contagion but multiple targets. That is, multiple initial targets who would then ALL be contagious.
