Are there any real DnD newbies?

I'd also like to add that I think even more young people would get interested in D&D if there were an entry level "Basic" set again. There was talk around GAMA of such a thing, but WotC pulled it off this year's schedule, so who knows?

Hmm. I heard WotC was coming out with a $20 entry set with (gasp!) prepainted mini's. Was this the set that was pulled off this year's schedule?

And adults are certainly not receptive to being introduced to RPGs.

No and yes. At game conventions, plenty of adults are willing to learn D&D -- including in the kid's room! (: However, at "game nights" for social groups, there's no way in heck I can even get a "beer and pretzels" game going. Haven't tried a "Host a Myster" sorta thing, tho.

I'm very new. I'm in 8th grade now. In 7th, I somehow found the adventure game (that is now DOWN dangit. I can't teach my cousins how to play without it!). After some arguing with friends we got it started. I DMed and each player played 2 characters. I created a town area for it too. They didn't really undertand that D&D open-ended until Regdar decided to flash an old lady in the town- which turned out to be a barbarian heroin. Much fun and laughs were had by all. After a few failed campaign attempts we're trying to get one started up this summer.

Right this moment, I am 21.

I bought an AD&D boxed set way back when (~7 years ago) and tried to play it with two of my friends (both the same age as me). We liked it but couldn't get into it (I blame it on immaturity, lack of players, and too many hard-to-understand--at least at the time--rules).

I don't have any idea what got me interested in D&D. I've always liked F&SF. My parents never RP'ed, but my dad is sort of into F&SF though not to the degree I am.

I'm playing D&D now because a year or two ago a friend of mine invited me to join his campaign, and I liked it enough to do more.

Semi-side note: I first picked up Vampire because it looked cool. In fact, I bought almost all of the 2E source books (and read them, cover-to-cover) without ever meeting anyone who played, or ever really wanting to play.

I love Vampire and have played since, to varying degrees of success.

I "got into" gaming (I don't count the AD&D misadventures above) through a random solicitation (ooh la la) for GURPS players. Never played it, never heard of it, loved it. It's still one of my favorite systems, though that could be due to nothing more than the fact that it got me into RPG's.

Still have the AD&D boxed set. Think it's wholly intact, too. :D
