Are Undead Scary?

How scary are undead?

I remember when I first got into D&D (mostly through SSI's games) the undead always used to seriously freak me out. Like... I think Dungeon Hack had an option to turn off the undead. I always used it. Did anyone else used to get actually scared by the concept of the undead?

I think the Undead are groovy. There's just something thrilling about being confronted with your own mortality.

Oh..and when the zombies do rise from the grave you'll need to be prepared.

Grab a copy of the "Zombie Survival Guide" by Max Brooks. It's a life saver. =P

I don't like Undead...I mean...they're all...um...undead! Should STAY dead.

Of course, as a DM, I enjoy everything that can be used to torture the players. ;)

Undead lost a lot of their sting when level draining was weakened. They went from being the monsters you DID NOT want to cross, to being something that was as easy to tackle as any other creature. I've seen the change first hand, and the only time level-draining undead were considered threats was when one character was in danger of losing ALL his levels to a pack of them.

Yeah... when I was freaked out with them... those games were 2e. Wights especially I think freaked me out.

Undead were scary. Then I found out how to deal with them....

*Ahem*

As supporter of the Campaign For Equal Rites, I politely suggest that the crude term "undead" be abandoned in favor of the more politically correct "differently alive". The Silent Majority of the vitally challenged can't tolerate these slurs any more.

Bah, Undead Propoganda! Almost as bad as the Campaign For Equal Heights.
