A significant percentage of people suck. That percentage is no higher or lower among gamers, I don't think.

Yeah, that first part is certainly true. :\

My first impulse was a one-word reply. "Yes." Then I realized it was also curmudgeonly.

So I'll join in the general shout-out for the coolness of Green Ronin and everyone else who gave out free stuff! Well done. :D

I don't think it's just a Gamer thing.

About a month ago (or maybe a couple of weeks ago?) in the entertainment section of our local paper, there was an article on a woman who basically spends her entire life complaining to various companies in order to get free stuff. And about how she's teaching her two young children to be the same way. The triumphant greed of it was allegedly inspiring, or so it would seem they wanted us to think.

Or maybe they just wanted to put the freakshow on display, in her own words, knowing that most folks would have a reaction like you (and I) had.

Looking for the silver lining: Hey a larger number of jerks means a larger number of overall gamers! Am I right? Huh? Guys?

Are we that ungrateful that we complain about discounts & free items (even if it's a free item we can't get)?

Edit: By "we" I mean to ask if the gaming population have a higher percentage of these ingrates than normal.

Yes. It just seems that, especially online, that gamers are a negative, whiny, ungrateful lot.

To also echo Wizbang's sentiment, after downloading and reading Paizo's D0 module I went and subscribed to Pathfinder and plan on buying the PDF's of all of the Gamemastery modules.

I join the Chorus believing this is not a "gamer only" thing.

I think a general and most often rampant lack of empathy, of being able to see things from someone else's point of view, is a big problem we all face in our societies. A critical one.

On a more positive note, sometimes it's more constructive to think of those people as canaries. They identify potential problems by keeling over dead. :)

I wish. :D
