I got game. I have a tendency to play Wizards and if I have a decent idea what's coming up it's going to be appropriately trounced. I am generally a rather conservative tactician so there are more aggressive measures to accomplish victory, but they likely will not be as safe.

I think I do o.k. but I have not been back playing too long so I hope I improve a great deal. I must say some of the forums here are a big help, and playing with a guy who is pretty brilliant (at times) from a tactical standpoint doesn't hurt either.

Our DM likes to throw curves though, and I know he reads here, so there may be a post about my TPK folly in the next few days which will refute this correspondence.

In this case, I got game. I'm like the Dread Pirate Roberts in Princess Bride. Put me in a situation, and I'll figure a way out.

I'm very tactically oriented in most areas of my life. Long term strategic planning? Not my strong suit. But I will make the best out of any particular situation.

I'm a DM, so I have good tactics. I hope.

But tactics seem simple to me.

Humanoid bandits...Hide, ambush the party. Light the oil slick the party stumbled into. Fire arrows into the fire.

Monsters...Hide, spank the guy in front/back with special attack (ghoul touch, improved grab, etc.)

Harry the party with ranged attacks, run away.

If half the monster's group is disabled in the first two rounds, run away.

Disrupt the party, grab the gizmo and get out. Separate an individual, disable them, and rinse, lather, repeat.

I'm the most tactially minded in my group. Which is kinda bad since I'm DM. :]

I have played some wargames in the past, lots of Blood Bowl, too. Ah, BB. :) I'll go with Very Good.

This kind of thing is pretty subjective, but I consider myself a pretty good strategist. I tend to DM, and while I rarely kill PC's, I still challenge them everytime. Even on the player side I have an eye for character creation and tactics. I'm usually able to get out of a senario even when the deck is stacked against me.

I do well in this area though I hate that I do well in this area.

ditto.

i tend to overanalyze and plan 3 moves ahead for all the PCs in the group. and yet there is nothing i can do about it when the other players mess it up. so i have to rethink stuff. and... well my roleplay hurts for said reason.

I do not claim to know the high level stuff or all the tricks from the minute details of spells & mechanics, but dared put myself as Very Good and I will admit it here.

Lots of people know how to attack and keep up a strong offense with good combos.

As the battle unfolds I see opportunities for teamwork synergies for PCs (and NPCs). I see pluses and minuses for pushing for more offense or more defense, rachet it up or slow the combat down. I see where there are good places to take risks. I often provoke AoOs in order to move for position or grappling (even if I lack specialized feats) because I am certain of the tactical payoff. I occasionally forego my attack action entirely in order to make a double move that puts the opponents into an untenable position, e.g. move behind the spellcaster instead of making the obvious attack. (What is he going to do now? Retreat into the brawl?)

I've got game.

When I DM, I take the time to plan out the more important battles and work some foils against the more common plans of the players. They use the same tactics over and over, so it's quite easy for the BBEG or his important henchmen to plan around those tactics. If the opponent has no way of knowing the way the party fights, then I plan using the best tactics available to the opponent. IE Giants hurl lots of heavy objects from a distance, Ogre Magi strafe with Cone of Cold, elves use camoflage and hide abilities to snipe from the woods, etc.

When I play, I usually am the one to come up with the plans for the party. In 3ed, I tend to play rangers that take the Archery route at 2nd level, so I'm more of a sniper. It really annoys the DM when I'm able to get into position in the first round and start sniping from a tree. With the right feats and equipment, I'm a +10 to hit by third or fourth level.
