D&D (2024) Are you going to buy the new 2024 D&D Core Books

Do you plan on getting the new D&D core books in 2024?

  • Poll closed .
I mean, you guys keep believing that, but I think you're really underestimating how mad people will get if that happens. Wildly underestimating.
I think you are overestimating it. Do you think they will also keep printing the 2014 books? I see no difference there

Whizbang thinks the conversation about 2024 will be louder. No. The conversation about "WotC took stuff away they promised they wouldn't!"
where did they promise that?

Remember too, that the conversation about D&D is no longer restricted to D&D fans or TT RPG fans. Especially not after BG3's massive success. It's gone into gamer discussion in general. If WotC tries to pull material from sale entirely with 2024, that's going to be clickbait headlines on every videogame-oriented site
gamers won’t care, those who wanted to get into D&D would go with 2024 anyway. No new player will buy the 2014 version

I suspect many of the 24% who don’t plan to, never intended to regardless and haven’t been playing 5E so they aren’t really a loss.
what do you base that on? If I never wanted to buy D&D in the first place, why would I participate (outside the ‘went with LU / ToV option)

These two comments betray your intent, depsite the spin.

I for one didn't say you were calling people dumb. I said you dismissed people's opinions as too early and invalid because they don't know what they like or don't understand their own motivation for purchasing things. And you said this only about the "Yes" people, not the "Nos" or "Maybes". It does come off as the "Yes" folk not having the capacity to have made their opinion. Yeah, that comes off as calling them dumb. The moderator saw that, and I see it too.
I said no such thing as any of this, nor do I believe any such thing. Yes and no are both perfectly valid opinions, based, I have no doubt, on accurate assessments of one’s own tastes and motivations. I only said, and only believe, that both decisions are being made too quickly, given that we do not have full information about the actual product they are deciding to buy or not buy.
And then, you are the one defending your comment by saying "Am I not allowed to think people's decisions are dumb?"
Because Umbran was critiquing what he seemed to think I thought, rather than what I actually said. Like even if I did think everyone who disagreed with me was stupid (which I don’t), I should be allowed to think that. My thoughts are my own, and I should not be policed on them, unless they translate to actions. And since I have not accused anyone of stupidity, it really shouldn’t be relevant if I think it. Though, I do not.

People who want the 2014 books in physical will still be able to get existing and unsold or second-hand copies, very easily.

With Beyond, though, you'll have a gigantic problem. Your only option will be to convince someone who has the 2014 stuff to "share" it with you, but given you can what, only share with three groups, that's very limited, and further it relies on that person staying subscribed.

where did they promise that?
They've said several times that they wouldn't take stuff away, and that 2024 isn't a required change, nor an edition change, it's just new stuff you can take or leave, and most importantly, with race/class changes, they've relied on this as a defense, saying "If you don't like it, you can always just use the 2014 version!".

If they take away new access to the 2014 version, that will not be true.

LOL. This is just unrealistic and silly. Gamers absolutely will care - even people who don't currently play D&D will be mad about it. And this idea that people will never want the 2014 version is just laughable, because I guarantee, based on the playtest, certain classes/races/spells will either be better in the 2014 version, different in interesting ways, or only exist in the 2014 version, and that will ensure people care and want to obtain the 2014 version.

yeah, that is ‘if you bought it, you will still have access to it’, just like Volo.

I am expecting PHB 2014 to be gone for good, guess we will know soon enough

If they do that, it's going to blow up in their face, especially if they delete Half-Elves and Half-Orcs from existence in the process.
