Are you off today?

While I do, in fact, have a state job, it appears to be about the only one with minimal Holidays. The policy around here is that all holidays other than Xmas, New Years, July 4th, Labor Day, Memmorial Day and Thanksgiving are traded for the days between Xmas and New Years. I suppose overall this is a good thing.

Ah, I'm off. Laying by the pool in sunny warm AZ.

Oh no, the wife just spotted me. I have to get back to the honey-do list.

I am at work, as are both of my employees and several contractors. The only ones I give vets day off to are those who actually served.

I was stunned to discover that today was not a holiday at my workplace. I work for the University of Toronto, which puts on its own Remembrance Day ceremony; yet, despite this, it still requires its employees to work through the day. I find this kind of disgraceful. How can we award a day off for Canadian Thanksgiving, a holiday of complete made-up nonsense, and not celebrate a holiday honouring real people and important events!?

I went to the ceremony and then had to attend a technically optional yet practically mandatory presentation.

Bleah! I hate those.

My office has lots of holidays, but not Veterans' Day, Columbus Day or Easter. :\
