Okay, did the big money draft last night. There are extenuating circumstances, but whatever.

Format- 1/2 PPR. No kicker.
Lineups- QB, 2RB, 2WR, 2FLEX (RB/WR/TE), DST

Snake draft (I know, real players do auction, but this is an old ritual). I was picking 10th out of 12 teams. Also? Hard to get value at RB/WR- in our drafts, they are always picked early and often, and most teams don't get QBs until very late.

QB: Josh Allen
RBs: Jahmyr Gibbs, Derrick Henry, Zeke (am I worried? yes, yes I am).
WRs: DK Metcalf, George Pickens, Diontae Johnson, Josh Palmer, Rashod Bateman, Josh Downs, Khalil Shakir, Demario Douglas*
TEs: Dalton Kincaid, Taysom Hill (also allowed to start as QB, but that would be stupid...)
D: Chiefs.

Analysis- Not too happy, but this is a tough league. No one has a great team. Obviously, I need the Bills to do well, and you can ask any Bills fan how that usually works out. If Allen is a superstar, I should be okay. If he isn't, or is injured early, my season will likely go up in flames (see also, Dalton Kincaid and my flyer on Shakir).

The big issue is my RBs. Zeke sucks, and I know it. So if even one of the two top RBs is a dud, I am also in trouble. This is going to be my area of focus (other than rooting for the Bills).

WRs- went for value. On the plus side, I think I cleaned up in terms of value. On the minus side, I am not sure that the strategy of "Pick awesome WRs on teams with QBs that can't get the ball to them" has ever made a fantasy owner happy. I actually really like the value pick of Josh Palmer, but the fact that I am starting him week one is not a good sign.

Lots of looking at the waiver wire. Also, for people that play in public leagues? It's a lot easier drafting against people who don't care than against people who are trying to screw you and take your money.**

*Douglas will be dropped shortly.

**With the exception of DEREK! and his sixth round pick. Seriously, Juju? You won't be hearing the end of that for a long time.

Is Rico available to pair with Zeke?? I thought my RBs bad.

In other news, everyone laughed at my suggestion multiple TE drafting is bad. Well now they get to agonize each week as they fail to start the right one. See likely.

...Rico was ... wait for it .... taken BEFORE Zeke. My RBs are so awful because every time it came around to me, there wasn't anything close to value (and I had used my first two picks on them). ANYTHING.

I can't possibly explain the dynamics of this 12-team league. When I say the vultures grab all the RBs and WRs, I mean it.

You definitely have the bargain #1 WRs on their respective teams, I can visualize how it all played out in your draft.

Bingo. I got George Pickens for a steal. Which I am sure will be comforting as I watch Wilson (and then Fields) fail to get him the ball while he throws his arms up in anger and disgust.

Yeah. This is arguably the worst RBs I've ever started with in this league, which is ironic given that I spent my first two picks on them!

The more I think about it, the more I realize that the choice to go a little earlier than others for a QB (Josh Allen, Pick 10, Round 3, chosen after another person picked Lamar in that round) really made this a season that is going to depend on Allen going beastmode.

I used to be a RB or bust as conventional FF experience tells us kind of drafter. Though, i've completely turned that around onto WR now. I dont over draft the position either, I get 2-3 top 10 WRs and a decent bench back up and then stack the RB position. I might have a have half a dozen scrubs, but it often works out like last year when I had Mostert. With the rise of committees and injuries its just a bad bet banking on strong RB play. The only time id go RB first is with the first pick for CMC. Although, if folks went WR heavy and I was at 8-10 position maybe then id go RB first.

Im guessing you were faced with AJ Brown, maybe Jamarr Chase over Gibbs and Henry?

Ja'Marr Chase was taken. I decided to reach for Jahmyr (#10) because I have strong feelings about his upcoming season (and its 1/2 PPR), assuming that I'd get a WR when the pick came back to me (only four picks made before I pick again) ...

AJ Brown and Garrett Wilson both taken. I risked, I lost. By the time I picked again, there wasn't value at the WR position (I wasn't going to take Nacua, Harrison Jr., London, Samuel, Olave, or Collins - the next six WRs) so I went ol' man Henry, who had dropped.

Plans always work out until you get punched in the face. There were four different times that the person I had ready to pick was taken one or two picks ahead of me.

This is why we don't have friends- friends suck. They stab you in the front.

Damn, the turn is rough this year.
