I've been noticing this for a while. There's been lots of 1 post wonders talking about their new game, and self promotion of products (like kickstarters).

Are you tired of it? Vote in the poll. It's a boolean choice.

I don't like it. It feels like spam. It feel disingenuous to have some newb sign up for an account just so he can pimp his product here in the forum.

I get that the TableTop Gaming forum is a place to get attention for your new table top game.

But there's a world of difference between a regular posting about a product others may enjoy, or even better giving a review, than to have our forum cluttered up with spam by strangers who are just passing through town.

As tired of it as I am, I hate to say that one of the purposes of this sight is for the promotion of such games. Can you imagine what rpg would have been like if we had the internet in the 70's?

I haven't noticed very many newbs with RPG products to pimp, usually it's the regulars, except for Kickstarters, and even then it's usually the typical existing publishers doing so. Not to say they aren't doing so - just haven't noticed too many newbs doing it.

Most of the time, I am as interested in the product plugs as I am to normal questions in the forum. I don't see ENWorld as just a place for forum posters - and no product plugs. I learn about new products here.

Give people a chance to promote their stuff, I say. It's not like it's so much effort not to click on a thread. And sometimes you see something that's interesting.

and there's always been an acceptable way to do that. It just feels a bit more blatant and dominating of the forum's first page of threads.

But thats what we got a poll for. We'll see what folks' perception is.

I find them incredibly easy to ignore, such that they don't impact my use of the site.

we all use it different, that's true.

I only read page one of the tabletop forum and the media forum. Anything past that is a dead thread.

Spam kind of pushes the other stuff down.

Given that those forums were moving slowly over the summer, that wasn't as noticeable, as a bottom thread was still from a day or two ago.

I said "no". At the moment it's not bothering me as the more people trying to make a great game the better. But I do think it would be nice for there to be a "Industry Promotion" section of the forums where this can be done and let those who are interested check it out.

From the recend threads I count twelve Kickstarter threads here and on Media Lounge, spread across 6 pages. That's a lot more than usual so it's noticeable, but it's a far cry from being tiring. Doesn't bother me.

Well as I mentioned on Morrus's thread discussing the combining of the D&D forums, was that doing so really pushes the first page content to page 2, 3 (dead pages) fast. I preferred different fora for different editions which tended to keep page one content on page one for a lot longer. With the combined forums now everything goes to page two within half a day. I don't think it's a SPAM problem, rather a combined forum problem - just an opinion though.

Now I'm not saying get rid of the D&DNext posts (even though I have zero interest in DDN), but because they tend to dominate the "Hot News Items" on the right side - I don't even look at those anymore. Besides I come to the forum directly (by link) and never start on the home page, so I don't see page one normally...
