Are You Using the 4E Forgotten Realms as a Setting?

I am not using the Forgotten Realms setting (and haven't since the early 90's) but I did buy my first FR book in over a decade with the Player's Guide to FR. I like the feats and classes presented too much to not get it. Still would never run anything in the FR - I prefer Mystara and Eberron right now.

Sort of. I made major changes to the map in 3.x. The inner sea is much larger, and there are more islands in it (including some large ones). In my 4E campaign, the metaplot of 100 years ago has moved up to only 30-40 years ago. The cause of the problems was that gods from another pantheon tried to move in on the FR gods. They did so by trying to bring the other half of Aebir Toril back, along with their worshipers. Things didn't go as either side in the gods war wanted, and many gods died (or were subsumed by other gods to create more powerful beings for the fight). Some of the islands in the inner sea are the bodies of dead gods.

But, I never used the FR as the cannon realms anyway. And, I don't get the complaints about the 4E realms invalidating the older versions, or being too generic. The longer the FR existed, the more WotC jammed stuff into it that was in the rules, but not in the FR. It was becoming more and more generic all the time.

I'm using it for my campaign and it works very well. Within our gaming group are a couple of FR fans (me included) and still we like playing in the new setting, because it allows us way more freedom. I think of it as a very playable setting. And I like a couple of the new High Fantasy Stuff like the Genasi/Djinn in Calmishan.

I should add that my campaign (started at level 1, will hit Paragon tier next month) takes place within, around and under the Dalelands. This area is virtually unchanged since first ed.

of course, I do not use everything as written... but I never do that.

I'm using it.

The campaign started in Westgate, but has since moved to Starmantle, where I'm running a modified version of Ruins of Adventure.

I'm using bits & pieces of the 4e FR for my homebrew campaign, such as the spellplague and various monsters and NPCs. I'll probably snatch a few locations too, but have yet to do so.

Was never a FR fan, tough 3Ed did a decent job of it. Earlier edition were a disaster. I loot some of the 4E materials for a Greyhawk game, but that is all. No Spellplague, and the Raven Queen hasn't murdered Nerull yet either.

I'm not using it as a setting. I never understood the appeal of the setting in 3rd edition, and it's not much more compelling in 4e.

Player's Guide has good rules, though. I like the Swordmage a lot.

I'm DMing a 4E FR setting, using the post-spellplague Realms. The spellplague changed regions that our group never ventured to (outside of a quick jaunt via teleport w/o error spamming) and since we played the Sundering of the Weave campaign (or whatever it's official title was) the 4E setting fits in pretty well with the way that story was going.

The only thing I'm having a problem with is remembering which gods are still around, which are gods, and which are avatars of the gods.

I've never been a fan of FR, so I continue to refuse to have a look at FR in 4E.

Based on what I've read on these boards, I suppose I might like it better in its latest incarnation, though. Still, I'd rather wait for a setting I _really_ like, e.g. Darksun, or Barsaive.

I'll also have a close look at the 4E Eberron setting - if enough of the original survived the transition it might be an interesting option, as well.
