ARGH!!! A million e-mails from thread-subscriptions! Suggestion/Question inside.

Well, I recently checked the box that allows me to be e-mailed whenever a thread I've participated in has been updated, and while the option itself is quite handy, it *does* fill an Inbox pretty darn quick with those popular threads.

I'm a member at another vBB and they have the same option, but it only e-mails you *once* whenever a thread you participated in sees more action. Basically, it knows when you were there, sends you an e-mail when you're away and someone posts in the thread, and doesn't send you anymore until you've seen the thread again and someone responds afterward.

Is this option available for the forums? If so, can it be implemented?

Thanks!

It only emails me the once. Anyone else having this problem?

Heh... I always have that "freak exception of the norm". Honestly, I've received well over 50+ e-mails today about various threads I've been a part of.

Hell, maybe a lot more than that, I've just been deleting as fast as possible.

Do what I do: In your e-mail program, create a folder for these reply mails.

Then, set your mailing filter to automatically slide the reply mails into that folder.

That way, they're much more manageable, and you can easily delete them all at once. Plus, they don't clutter up your inbox any more. :)

That sounds great, thanks for the tip!

But while you're here, could you give me a hand in setting that up without creating an entirely new e-mail account just for here?

Thanks, if so. :)

As an example, here's how it functions with Hotmail and Yahoo; maybe your program works similarly...

Yahoo:
1. Under Folders, enter the name of the folder (e.g., Reply to Post) in the box for "Add Folder," then click on Add Folder.

2. Under Mail Options, click on Filters. There, click on Add Filter. Set the following rules:
From Header: contains[i/] en world
Subject: contains reply to post
Move the Message to: Reply to Post

Hotmail:
1. Click on View All Folders. Click on Create New, and then do so. ;)
2. Click on Options. Click on Custom Filters.
Set the following rule:
If Subject contains reply to post
Then deliver to Reply to Post

Hope it helps! :)

Thanks, Darkness, I'll try that!

BTW: If it helps anymore, I use both Outlook Express and Netscape for mail. (I know, it's strange to have both, but I'm trying to decide which to use from now on.)
