Arkham Horror hurts my head . . .

The only things that are the same are the name and the theme. IIRC, it used to be a fairly simple roll your dice, move your mice game and you would draw cards once in a while. This is a rather complicated game, I think overly so. My wife loves boardgames, and she balked at this one. We have to arrainge an evening with a babysitter so that we can go and figure this game out. As mentioned above, I'll probably take the role of referee. That should make the first run smoother.

It IS complicated, but we found that with 4 regular gamers who are used to gaming, we were able to knock out some of the tricky parts, and once it starts flowing it really rocks. I can't tell you how excited i am by the thought of an expansion. That is exactly what the game needs. If you played it a lot, or not even a whole lot really, you'd eventally burn through all the card options. New characters, new spells, new encounters, new monsters, it would feel like an entirely new game. I can't wait!

Here you go from the original designer himself about what's changed and what's remaind the same.

BTW, This is a great game and I'm suprised by the number of people who think it's so complex. My group didn't have a problem grasping the rules, there were a couple oddly worded things that gave us a pause, but a quick look at FFG FAQ straightened that out pretty quick. One of the best things I like about this game is that you can play it by yourself if you got an urge to play and no one else is around.

That would be scary. And very difficult. Might give it a go sometime though.

I think it's more that the game can be overwhelming. I mean, with twenty decks of cards to deal with it's not as if the game doesn't look intimidating when it's set up for play.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I do agree that the game is complex if everyone has to learn all of the rules. However, it is very very very suggested that a "GM" is appointed at the beginning of teh game and only he needs to learn and master the complex mythos stuff. It makes the game a lot less complex.
