Armies of the Abyss??

If you look at the rankings (via reviews) at the d20reviews site, you'll see it tied for first place for any product WotC or not. I'd pretty much throw in with that assessment.

Of course, it's a bit too focused to be used by everyone, but it's the kind of book that makes you want to find a way to use the creatures and NPCs it has.

this is slightly off topic, but can anyone explain to me why the herlekin has +4 damage and +5 to hit, when it also ahs a strength of 14?

there's probably a good reason, but i can't figure it out...

Actually, it has a 16 strength (at least in my copy). The attack bonus, +5, is correct (+2 base, +3 for strength). The damage bonus for the pitchfork is also correct (+3 * 1.5 = 4.5, rounds down to +4 damage). Remember, it has to use it with two hands since it is a large weapon.

Correct.

As for Armies, I do not have a public release date at this time. At the end of last year we had several freelance writers blow their deadlines all at the same time. This is why our Q4 2001 schedule went to pot. The good news is that we are almost finished sorting everything out and that we are working far enough out in advance that it won't happen again. Freeport: The City of Adventure arrived at the printer today, and will see the glorious light of day as soon as we get it printed, bound, and shipped. We are now turning our attention to finishing off Armies. What this may mean is printing Armies of the Abyss and the Shaman's Handbook at the same time and then we will be completely caught up and back on our normal schedule.

Look for previews of Freeport and Armies over the next couple of weeks. And any of you coming to the GAMA Trade Show, be sure to drop by our booth to check out Freeport in person. It should be hot off the presses.

Thanks, Chris.

BTW, and this may not be the topic to discuss this in, but I'm real curious about the Shaman's Handbook. It seems like it's offering an entirely new, alternate system for magic. Is that the case? I'm always on the lookout for an alternate magic system.

hey now.....

I was referring to Armies of the Abyss. If i look through and see mistakes or just Cr's that are screwy, i won't buy it.
You can that nit-pickiness if you like, i call it needing to have your product done well to get my money!!!
I buy such products for their ability to interject directly into my campaigns, so that i WON'T have to do work to shape them up or have to fix them. If i want do to a lot of work, i'll create the stuff myself. So when i look at a creature book, i expect it to be as seamless as possible, or it defeats the purpose of the supplement.

Well, don't take me too seriously, but I seriously don't understand the complaint about CRs (unless they are way off) because I don't see them as a very precise measurement anyway. What other mechanical errors would you be talking about then?

Geeeee...ssuuuuuuuuussss!!!!

Crap on a big stick!!
I haven't been able to get on this board at all since this friggin morning!!!! I can only get through in the middle of the damn night it seems like anymore!!! :(

Just so you don't think i don't answer good questions, here i am.

I just did a review of Legions of Hell, put my money where my mouth is, so to speak.

Hopefully you'll understand my position and know that i am not so much a Green Ronin Detractor, as a guy who expects top flight products from these guys. I am a fan.......really i am.
I just believe in tough love!!!! :)
