Arms and Equipment Guide. Dastana.

According to the book, this piece can be added to some type of light armour and provide additional armor bonus which can be combined with foundations armor and shield. So by adding a masterwork Dastana, I can get +1 AC without getting any further armor check penalty? Does that mean a Mithral Shirt with a pair of Mithral Dastana is now +5 Armor, no armor check penalty and no Arcane spell failure? I am afraid that this piece will become very popular amongst PCs in my campaign.

Simple way to fix that is just say that Dastana can't be independantly masterwork - basically that you total the Armor + Dastana before applying any masterwork or material (mithral, etc) modifiers.

Probably also want to stipulate that Dastana cannot be enchanted with enhancement bonuses seperatly from the suit of armor. Otherwise you'll run into the '+5 Chain Shirt/+5 Dastana, Look At Me I Have A +10 Enhancement Bonus To My Ac' problem.

A mithriel chainshirt have a 10% Arcane spell failure and masterworking on items dont Arcane spell failure so it not that bad:)

Oh! My bad. A mithral chain shirt still has 10% of arcane spell failure.

But the point is, adding Mithral Dastana has no drawback other than 2.5 lbs. of weight.

Sej's way seems to be good as now I can consider a chain shirt with dastana as a single armor with +5 Armor Bonus, Max Dex bonus of +4, -3 Armor check, 25% Miss chance and 30 lbs. of weight. But this thing is still way better than a breastplate in all the aspects.

And a masterwork mithral chain shirt with dastana still has no armor check penalty....

I had Dastana before the book came out. I called them masterwork bucklers.

Since they provide an armor bonus, you couldn't have them enchanted to +5 and have it stack with armor. I would count them seperate for masterwork, but otherwise they just become part of the armor. Thou I would allow them to be worn alone, if the issue came up. Not bad for spellcasters.
