OOC: Splitting the party is somewhat less of an issue, mainly because this is 'investigation' time.

Leo: Indeed, there is some forest behind the castle and township of Rudesheim, which lies on a hill.

You spend a little time getting a layout of the land. In just a few hours you find out the location of most things.

It is fairly easily laid out; the castle of Rudesheim lies higher up on the hill and overlooks the small town of the same name, probably all people working for the castle. A small inlet runs around the town and leads right to the lower part of the castle.

Searching around you find a small church hidden in a small forest glade just to the north, out of eye shot of the castle. The church overlooks the river, and is built on a noticeably high cliff.

Over the hill that the castle lies on the two of you can see a large forest, and on its outskirts are a number of woodsmen and their wives. To the south you see a number of clearings and farms, and in the open areas you see the telltale signs of smoke from charcoal burners huts.

The town of Rudesheim has a church, and you see it is the centerpoint for the entire village, the rest made of solid timber, though the outskirts less serious shelter such as huts and tents have sprung up. One or two other stone buildings dot the landscape but for the most part you see timber.

The castle itself is quite awe-inspiring, hidden behind the trees and on top of the hill in the way it is. You see that even now in the afternoon, a cool mist covers its lower areas.

Your survey of the land is noticed, first by a few woodsmen and then eventually by the men at arms. They don't approach you, but they seem to have noticed you are poking your nose about.

Ilshana, I'd like you to make a carouse roll for finding out info.. and keeping the peace :D. Assuming you are dealing with taverns, inns, drinking houses and the like, you are dealing with men who are entirely interested in your fantastic looks. If you are deliberately seeking out women, don't add the bonus.

Gorgamesh tights his hood and covers his lower part of the face with a scarf. He is dressed with heavy grey robes that soften look of his hunchback, Giving the magus the look of an old man, as best as he can to prevent from the town's people to gaze with fright upon him
His hunter friend, a grog named Theodor help the wizard by supporting his arm when they walk.

"I wonder if the castle was built on the ruins of the covenant."
Gorgamesh sigh and looks around
"This town seems like a nice place if we are planning to stay and find out what happened to the covenant. I wonder if there is a library over here or some local scholars and sages, if do, they are probably under the supervision of the church."

Leo is not at all pleased with the situation. "It is sad" he says, "seeing a place of magic overtaken by the mundanes in this way. Whatever destroyed Rudiaria was not this place's undoing." He points to the town and church - "if it weren't for the infestation of mundanes, this would still be a place of Magic."

He traveles along with his companions, trying to sniff out any trace of magic that might be left in this place. He tries to steer their traveles towards the forest beyond the castle, and if they reach it he'll be quick to don his lion shape and stroll through it in this form.

OOC: Leo casts an Intellego Vim spell to determine the presence of a Magic aura, and tries to see if there are any there during their tour. He casts it before entering town, so as not to suffer from the Dominion aura, and to have more privacy. He pays attention, particularly, to the environment of the castle - but obviously won't travel within...

InVi 3 (B1+2 Sun), with Casting Total +2 [0 Sta+1 In+3 Vi=+4], and a dice roll of 8, for spell level 5 - I assume he makes it.

While a faint aura of Holiness pervades the town, the castle itself is less so. You find that lower areas of the castle, especially where the water meets the castle has a very weak Magic aura.

(Carouse roll (1d10+1 skill + 2 Presence or Communication, they're the same + 3 for bein' all cute an' stuff): 10.)
Roll Lookup

As Leo scouts the castle with his magic sniffing spell, Ilshana works her own brand of magic, inquiring about that neat castle and what noble lives there and is it new, because it looks pretty new doesn't it...trying to get enough versions of the story that the pattern of the truth can be sussed out between them all.

(OOC note - this is assuming she focuses on the menfolk, but I was thinking she might use an illusion spell as well to get info from ladies...albeit not so flirtatiously, of course. :) )

Ilshana finds out that the Baron Bromser lives in the castle, and his whole family have lived there for years. Through discreet investigation no-body knows anything about Rudiaria, or even know any stories of the like.

Finding an old washerwoman and beginning a conversation, Ilshana finds out the Baron Bromser has been sleepless for many nights now. It appears that recently a number of strange events have been happening in the castle.

The old lady crosses herself and tries to change the subject, But as Ilshana presses she finds out that a number of men around the castle have been having strange dreams, terrible, terrible dreams.

Apparently, men have been dreaming that an old hag has been sitting on their chest and stealing their breath to grow younger. Many of the men have been losing hair and even the young ones are going grey. Baron Bromser himself has had the dreams a number of times.

Once on the shores of the river and the surrounding area, Gorgamesh will cast quietly “Sense the Nature of Vis” (Virtue: Quiet Magic(. If Vis will be present over here, Gorgamesh is guessing that this area could have been a location of a covenant and they do stand where Rudiaria once stood.

As soon as Leo meets up with Ilshana and the others, he reports his findings. "I think we can be fairly certain this castle stands on the ruins of old Rudiaria. There is a weak Magical aura around it, probably a remnant of the old place. I didn't stray into the castle to examine it further, but I doubt it is stronger inside. It's more likely the remnant of the old, powerful, aura, before it was overrun by these mundanes."

Should others way in with their findings, he'll of course listen intently.

OOC: I take it there are no Magical auras in the forests near the castle or monastery?
