Art Gallery for RoF

Mmm Cowboy Bebop...

The Warsling Sniper looks like it's supposed to be a reprise of the "Wolverine" halfling from the FRCS. Sadly, it just isn't very good. The halflings dissapointed me sorely because I've really grown to like them in 3E. I despised them pre-3E because they looked like fat, apoplectic hobbits.

Hammer Fist... "Me so happy, I win rock scissors paper!"

I have no special love for dwarves, but the way they are so poorly depicted in these illos filled me with rage.
Well, figuratively speaking, of course.

The wemic is very well done, technique wise, but I do wish it had followed the look and feel of the wemics from the FRCS.

Guh? "Anime"? Why is it that whenever D&D art looks a little different than usual, it's automatically labeled as "anime"?

I looked at those pictures - other than *one* fey'ri, they're as close to anime as Van Gogh.

My two biggest disappointments were the osquip (which to me doesn't look much like a rodent) and the steeder (um, I count only 6 legs on that "spider," and 7 eyes growing in what looks like a bald spot on its fuzzy cephalothorax). Of course, my pet peeve artwise is when the illustrators don't bother to do their research on the monsters in question. It's one of the reasons I hated the 3E Monster Manual artwork so much, and am hoping against hope that they get it right in the 3.5 Monster Manual.

Granted, some D&D monsters are made up from scratch (and thus there's really no arguably "wrong" way to draw them), but those which are based on real-life creatures to me ought to look like those real-life creatures. Eight legs on a spider, people!

the half-moon elf has a freakishly wide mouth. Poor quality.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. My only question: Wax lips? Or Jack Nicholson version of the joker?

I think that for a lot of folks, the phrase "anime" means "cartoonish." More of a word-choice issue than a slight.

Personally, I'm a little let-down with the RoF artwork--the previous 3e FR products seemed to have a darker, baroque kind of look. Too bad it was too expensive.

-Great Rift Skyguard: looks like they jacked this guy whole-cloth from Warhammer Fantasy. Again, bad proportion, etc.

Probably because Wayne England used to work for them. He has a distinctive style that defined at least one of their games. It really shows in some this and the battlerager.

anime....? no. Anime would have been better. I prefer tighter use of color. Some pictures are decent but others have much to want for....:(

Top avatar by the way, Hellsing is simply amazing.
Thanks :)
Indeed it is.

Lockwood was 'let go' by WotC and is now working freelance. Which is amazing considering Cramer has seemingly been retained. Maybe hes less expensive?
I can't believe they let Lockwood go, he was one of their best :(
I'm assuming that Sam Wood and Lars Grant West have been let go too. I haven't seen any art by them as of late and they both did some top-quality stuff.
