Hey, Abraxas! Check out the FRCS. There's a picture of a Tiefling monk that I like.

whoever did the assasin vine (mark tedin?) should do much more, it is not the easiest or funnest thing to draw and i think that illustration rocks

I think I'm in the minority here, but the only illo in the MM that I don't like is the displacer beast (which I can't stand).

Although not every picture is quite to my tastes, all of them are a) good enough to show to my players and/or b) detailed enough for me to describe them well. Overall, I'm happy with the MM's artwork, and some of it is outstanding.

What I'd like to see more than revised artwork is a return to the old format (new monster, new page) and illustrations for every creature -- especially the templates. But that's another thread entirely.

so what have we learned from this thread? everyone agrees that the MM has some bad artwork but we can't agree on what artwork is the bad artwork.

It made me use a Tiefling Monk as the Right Hand of a high priest in a mega adventure I put my PCs through.

I wish I had gotten a chance to use the 'Blindsight 5' Radius' and his Darkness ability more.

I think you'll find a couple of them are pretty darn near universal. One that immediately jumps out at me is the vampire.

With the exception of the displacer beast, which seems to be nearest unanimous of all so far.

My biggest grudges are the displacer beast and manticore.
