Artifact Questions

First Post
I have a question or two about a few artifacts and how things work.

1. Deck of Many things. The sun card grants 50,000 exp. This is enough to level up (unless you're 51st level). In most cases you can level up twice. Except the PHB states - that you should only end up 1 exp short of the second level up. Artifacts have a tendancy to bend the rules. So, how does this get handled? Give 50,000 exp and as many levels as applicable? Or follow PHB and give 1 short of second level?
2. Pricing. So now that the party has drawn from the Deck, it is useless to them. I'm imagining they will want to sell it. How do artifacts get priced? How much would you pay for one? Also looking for suggestions of the Book of Vile Darkness prices.

Thanks.

You have a bucket that holds a gallon of water.
The rules say that it will only hold one gallon.
You pour two gallons of water into the bucket.
How many gallons of water is in the bucket?

As for selling a deck of many things because it is useless...how can you put a price on the donjon? I'd just make it poof.

Back when we were playtesting 3e, we specifically asked about #1 -- and were told that you can't go up more than one level at once, and all the extra xp was lost. That at least was the designers' intent.

Doesn't the deck of many things teleport away after you draw, unless you draw a card that sais you can/must draw again?

Not in 3e, as it turns out.

When I ran into this problem, I had a church of chaos barter major favors and unique items for it.

Note that if they try to sell the book of vile darkness and word gets out, lawful good churches will probably try to track them down.
