Artifcers in non-eberron games!

I like to know would any players play artificers in non-eberron games like Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms or any other world. Also which playable races (non-eberron cultures) would or could you see being an Artificer?

Since I'm running an Eberron game, I can't really answer the first part of your question. As for the second - I think dwarves and gnomes, with their interest in building things, would make natural artificers. Dwarves would be slightly hampered by their Cha penalty, but that's hardly crippling.

I have a Halfling Artificer (Skip N. Stone) in a homebrew campaign my wife runs and she has a human artificer in a homebrew campaign I run. So, yes. The only concern is the presence of Artificers increases the magic available to a party due to their craft reserve and Dedicated Wright (if you allow them to make one). As for races? Humans, Half-elves, Gnomes, and Dwarves would be most common artificers. The rest are traditionally tied to a form of magic (Elves) or tend to avoid magic (Half-orcs). That's not to say that they can't be an articer, merely that they would be less common.

I have artificers in my non-Eberron campaign. IMC, the class originated with the gnomes, and is that race's favored class. The vast majority of artificers are gnomes, though they have trained a select few individuals of other races. All in all, IMC it is a fairly rare class, and the wondrous widgets the class can invent are found largely in the gnomish homeland.

I've had an artificer in a Rokugan game I ran. He was a Kaiu, which is one of the clans dedicated to building stuff and forging weapons. I'd probably allow an Ashahina or Agasha artificer, too.

The artificer actually fits very well in the Forgotten Realms. The country of Rashaman has a spellcatsing tradition where the females fight the battles/defend the land, while the male spellcasters are stuck making magic items for the females. The males could all be artificers.

Another good place for Artificers in the Forgotten Realms is Maztica. It's probably the best class to model the artisans of feather and claw. Just write-up seperate Pluma and Hishna infusion lists and you're golden.

Also, in forgotten realms, Artificers fit in very well with worshipers of Gond and denizens of Lantan which, funnily enough, have a Prestige Class called Gnome Artificer in Magic of Faerun.
