The Forever War had something like that. The AI kept a group of human in an environment just in case its society failed, humans could return.

A lot of technological advancements lead to people losing jobs, but new kind of jobs being created, often jobs that weren't even thought of before. That didn't necessarily help the person that lost their job, because they were not qualified for the newly born job and might never be. But overall humans were still needed.
Will new AI developments be finally the kind of tech advancement where this won't happen? I wouldn't count on it. When Konrad Zuse built his Z3 he probably imagined neither the role of usability engineer nor a giant digital marketplace where you can order any of countless of products.
