The most under-rated and misunderstood (IMO) MMORPG is Asheron's Call 2. Plagued by a disasterous launch, and the extremely undeserved poor reputation of its predecessor, AC2 has languished in relative obscurity. This isn't fair. AC2 is a ton of fun, and visually stunning to boot. It has been vastly improved since release. Here's an article outlining some of the improvements:
