Ask me about Egyptian Adventures: Hamunaptra

Y'all saw the two previews we posted at the Green Ronin site, right?

If not, visit http://www.greenronin.com/cgi-bin/product.cgi?prodid=1407#related

There are two PDFs up at the moment: a preview of the races (and write-ups of of the Pesedjer (Humans) and the Anpur (Gnolls)) and a preview of the the city-states of Terenuthis, Tjekut, and Qarta Nefu.

Got word on Friday that the boxes are still being assembled with books and poster map. They might not ship until the end of next week, which would slip them in the Osseum warehouse the first of November instead of in stores before Halloween. At most it'll be a few days delay, not much.

Mmmm... Gnoll preview...

(Gee, can we tell who wrote that one? ;))

Glad to hear they're on the way. I just hope the box holds up better than the one my new D&D Basic set came in. :(

Further questions, folks? Get 'em while they're hot...

In the use of divine magic: do you touch on things like the multi-part soul, or the feather of Maat, or things like that? Are they mentioned as 'flavor' or is there any 'cruch' associated with it?

Well, I only worked on some of the relevant sections, so I may not be the best person to answer this one. But, so far as I know...

The different parts of the soul are indeed addressed. However, I believe that most of the impact they have is flavor, as opposed to mechanical.

Again, I could be wrong on that last bit, though.

Are magical items addressed any? Is it still considered core to be able to make them with the craft feats?

Magic items certainly exist in Khemti. (We've got some new ones, in fact.)

To the best of my knowledge, the rules for creating items are more or less the same as in the core rules. If a wizard or cleric--or their equivalents--have the proper feats, they can create items.

However, because certain spells have changed (it's much harder to create water in Khemti than in the standard rules), that may imapct what sorts of items can be created.

ITs good to hear water is tougher to create, that leads me into my next section of questions: Are yiou usign the basic DMG rules for heat and dehydration or were they expanded upon? Are mirages and oasises described? Is Khemti the first great civilization or are their hints/ruins of previous ones lost in the desert?

A quick disclaimer: We're still in "to the best of my knowledge" territory here. ;)

To the best of my knowledge, we decided the core rules on heat and dehydration were sufficient for our purposes. (One of the many reasons for restricting or eliminating heavy armor.) I honestly couldn't say whether mirages are mentioned, but I know that several oases are among the major locations detailed. Khemtian civilization does not appear to have any predecessors in the region (and the mythology accounts for that), but there have been numerous ages of Khemtian civilization, so there are ancient ruins and structures the current people do not know well or understand.

I should add, BTW, that if someone wants more complex or comprehensive rules for heat and dehydration, there's nothing intrinsic to Hamunaptra that would prevent you from including such rules from other books. We've got some feats and special abilities that interact with heat and dehydration as presented in the DMG, and you might need to tweak them a bit if you're using rules from other sources, but it should be a pretty simple procedure.
