Assassins! Assassins! Assassins!

Librum Equitis Compiled includes a non-magical assassin prestige class that has received GREAT response from most readers (seems to be a favourite from the book - the Practical One. But again, it's a prestige class. This class also appears in the print edition of Librum Equitis volume 1 published by those hoopy froods at Mystic Eye Games.
I'll second that - the Practical One is my favorite assassin-type prestige class that I've seen. Makes sense, does what an assassin should do, and no magic. As an added bonus, it comes with the rest of L.E. attached to it, which is a darn good book.

Also soon to be making an appearance in the Aedon Veiled Lorebook: City-States of Dhar Khosis.;)

Hell, you pointed me to it on the House Rules board when I asked about a non-magic using Assassin.

Besides, it's a good 3-4 months away from release. I haven't even put it on the Dev Forums yet.

Mongoose has a "Power" class book for the Assassin core class.

I didn't like it all that much, but it's not the worst ever created. And it's cheap, only $3.

It doesn't have magic spells. I thought it was a bit too narrow - the main power was being able to have a really really nasty sneak attack. Same as the Rogues, except when it takes 3 rounds to study the target (like the killing blow), it does double the damage in a sneak attack. +20d6 at 19th level.

(It also drops evasion.)

I don't disagree with this perspective (and your quickie assassin, double entendre aside, is pretty good :)), but I think that one of the defining features of an assassin class is a death attack. Stack as many restrictions on it as you like, this is what justifies making a separate core class for the assassin, IMO. Other elements -- like the ones you included in your quick version -- are certainly important, but that's the biggie for me.

Edit: typed too quickly.

Yeah. That was the key thing about the 1st Assassin. It wasn't just a thief. It was a murderious, tricky almost thief.
