Attack from two squares away

I'm knock down, my target is 1 sq away.

Indeed, I think making prone, shifting away is going to be a common tactic in my games, though Im not sure if I want to remove its utility...
I suppose they still arent able to use a melee power, just a basic attack...

I'm also inclined to think this is a feature and not a bug. Many powers would dramatically lose their utility if you allowed a 1 space charge.

I'm quoting you because it's the most recent example of this line of reasoning. Nothing personal, but a lot of people have said it, and the fact remains that it's kind of silly. You can stand up and charge someone three squares away, but not two squares away?

And this is good game design because it makes tripping people more useful? I'm sorry, call me crazy, but I fail to see the point.

Additional examples: If you're affected by a condition that limits you to a single standard action. In a surprise round.

In third edition, a partial action always allowed a 5' step with your attack as a standard in these situations. Fourth edition allows the charge, but not the step and attack. Weird.
