Attacking with Chain (spiked) and Flamberge

Regarding the following thread which state that a flamberge is a very long weapon and it is difficult to carry around:
How long is a flamberge

I have a question about what my character can and can't do during combat. If I have to carry the Flamberge in my hands (my character is 6'6 btw), can I still use my chain spikes and then, on the next round, use my Flamberge?

I planned, on the first round, to move my 20' and attack with my chain spikes (because It is considered a ranged weapon), and on the second round, move my 20' (if necessary) and continue fighting with my flamberge. Is that still possible?

thanks for your reply.

Spiked Chain is a melee weapon with a range of 10ft. WEll, it would be taought to carry both these weapons. But looking poast that you could attack with the chain, then drop it and draw your sword and attack with that.

I wouldn't let you hold both a spiked chain and a two-handed flamberge in your hands at the same time. That's silly - you wouldn't have your hands fully free to manipulate either of them.

Assuming you have some sort of rig on your back to draw the sword, you could do as Crothian suggests. The Quick Draw feat would let you pull the sword out as a free action, which would mean that if someone engaged you while using the spiked chain, you could pull out your sword and get a Full Attack action against them.

I think maybe you don't understand that the power of the Spiked Chain lies in it's reach...it's not a ranged weapon, just has a reach of 10' *and* is able to attack in the next square.

From what I understand of it, if you take advantage of this and the Attack of Opportunity you can make multiple attacks that will far outweigh the better damage of the Flamberge.

Add to this it's ability to trip without giving an Attack of Opportunity and you're laughing.....

Yes i understand that it is a good weapon, but I'm really good with my Flamberge and I don't move very fast. So, what I want to do it's, in case the oponent is at 30', I'll move 20 and still be able to strike him with my chaine (spiked).

If I understand correctly, attacking with my chain and switch for my flamberge is a move equivalent action. Therefore I can't move, switch weapon and attack on the same round, which is really bad.

i was always under the impression that the spiked chain is a two handed weapon that had a circle of iron thats attached near your mid section and two chains coming off of that. You'd use both your hands (one each) on each chain.

this of couse doesn't make much sense, but at least i seem to remember it being drawn that way?

anyone help me out here?

Can't carry both at the same time, and flamberge is rather large to have to take out. I would not let you do that as fast as removing a longsword from a scabbard. How about a nice bola? Can use that one handed, carry the flamberge in the other hand resting on your shoulder. Swing the bola and release, then move in with the flamberge.

You can. Again, ignorining the carrying both of them problems, you drop the chain (free action), move and draw flamberge (move action), attack (standard action).

So, according to what has just been said. I can do a free action, 2 moves action and still be able to attack in the same round? IS that true? or is "move and draw flamberge" part of the same move equivalent action?

Hmmmm

Sheated Flamberge on back, chain hanging on hip.

This assumes Human Fighter 9

  • Level 2
    Weapon Focus(Spiked Chain)
  • Level 3
    Weapon Focus(Flamberge)
  • Level 4
    Weapon Specialization(Spiked Chain)
  • Level 6
    Weapon Specialization(Flamberge)
    Dodge
  • Level 8
