I like for there to be mechanical differences between being big and small, but I'd like those differences to not too extreme in regards to combat for the sake of fun. Or at least be a somewhat even trade off like, say you deal less damage, but are harder to hit.
 



I have two solid votes for #2 and one solid vote for #1. Then there's theemrys and Oni who didn't vote, but I'm taking their comments as support for #1. Maybe a poll would have been better, but I think it'd be kinda weird after this thread.

Gnomes should be tough(like dwarves), courious (there continously trying to make stuff-anything) and smart (they learn things, when they make mistakes). They should have great noses (as in big as well as sensitive) and have strange magical affinities (they are rather fey after all).

Halflings should be resistant to influence (magical and otherwise), it is hard to get them out of there homes. There good with growing things. And they should be lucky . . . really lucky.

Variable damage is fairly silly. A blade doesn't have to go through you three feet to kill you. Two inches are all you need.

Variable damage represents the increased ability of a weapon to do lethal damage.

All you really need to do to kill someone is the right amount (and kind) of damage in the right place- a cut a few mm deep can kill if its done right...but no one would argue that a scalpel is equally dangerous to a Zweihander in melee combat.

Would they?
