1. Monte Cook himself said his base classes were more powerful than standard D20 classes.

2. Why not consider the Swashbuckler class out of the Complete Warrior.
1) I don't care what he says. I own the book, have read the class and don't believe that it is. It's also completely beside the point.

2) Never heard of it. Is it any good? What's it like?

Who made you God?
This isn't the kind of request God would make, it's the kind of request anyone would make when someone shows up with no purpose other than to make a mess of what one is trying to do.

1. Fair opinion though I will give more weight to the designer especially one as proficient as Monte Cook even if I do not like his material.

2. It is a decent class but I am not sure it should be a core class. I have a simple rule for core classes. I should be able to take a core class and create 5 different characters and have them all be very different. With the Hexblazde and Swashbuckler out of Complete Warrior I feel this would be rather tough, they are a bit too specific for lack of a better word.

Oh heavens to betsy, DocMoriart[t]y thinks I'm a troll.

So you know what my opinion of you is.

Oh heavens to betsy, DocMoriar[t]ty thinks people care about his opinion.

Here is your lemon.

Here are some commas: ,,,,,,

It appears you need them.

But he's an amusing troll.
Fascinatingly, not 10 minutes after I posted the previous followup, I get a bunch of emails asking to confirm my subscriptions to some random mailing lists I've never heard of.

Sheesh, talk about sore losers.

Oh well, that's what procmail is for.

However, although I never picked it up, I recall the book Swashbuckling Adventures by AEG included a class called the Swashbuckler that would putatively fill the same role. For whatever reason, I haven't heard a lot about this class, though. Can anyone describe it to me, and for anyone who's got access to both classes, can anyone compare and contrast?

I like the Unfettered better. The Swashbuckler (AEG version) starts with an AC/Ref bonus at 1st, gets weapon finesse at 2nd, 7 bonus feats and three weird abilities: replace str bonus w/light weapons with a +d4, (4th), add cha mod to attack & damage 1/day (8th; 2/day 13th; 3/day 19th), ignore armor (14th).

They have the same BAB and save progression. But the Swashbuckler only gets a d6 for HP.

Swashbuckler needs good Dex, Cha and Int or Wis. Unfettered just needs a good Dex and Int, though if you're making a swashbuckler-type, you'll want to get a good Cha score too.

Ultimately, I'd say the Unfettered is a more customizable class, and it's parry abilities are just as cool as the Swashbuckler's flavor abilities... I don't think I'd mind playing the Swashbuckler once or twice, but the Unfettered seems like it would get more use out of it in the long term.
