Guys, let's please lay off any further insults to each other, and other posters, for that matter. I can appreciate the dialectic, but it can be accomplished without the personal slams.

Now, on to bashing character classes! :)

We have been interchanging all the classes from PHB and UA and have noticed no balance issues. *shrug*

My current game has a 3.5e ranger, a wu jen, and an unfettered, and no balance issues so far :)

Actually, what Monte said NOT that the classes in AU are more powerful.

What he said is that the classes are designed to have a flatter power curve. They are slightly more powerful at lower-to-mid levels, and then become less powerful at high levels. This is especially true of spellcasters. A fair bit of the bonus power at low levels for martial classes comes from Heavy Exotic Weapons and the bonus Talent you get at 1st level. If you allow Core classes to get Heavy Exotic Weapons, then all martial classes get a similar boost in power.

Also, if you want to preserve the swashbuckling spirit of the class, you might want to consider replacing the Agile Weapon Proficiency that the Unfettered get with Weapon Finesse. I haven't made an Unfettered with a rapier yet. Spike sticks, claws, spiked chains, but no rapiers :)

I have not found them to be more powerful. We've been playing mixed games for some time now, and not had any balance issues that I can percieve.

You mean bashing character classes is okay! Yay.

Quick, now get to bashing before Dink gets here and countermands Henry. ;)

If there is a problem with power level, it'll show up after 15th level.

I do think AU spellcasters lose out at higher levels, where their flexibility is offset by the flexibility of stock D&D spells like Polymorph, and no-save spells like Maze, and just plain abusive spells like Timestop.

On the other hand, the flexibility of spell templates and Sorcerous Blast will keep AU spellcasters as the best nukers at higher levels, especially since many popular high-level antagonists (read all extraplanar creatures) have elemental resists of one kind or another.
