Thanks for the tip barsoomcore. Audacity was just what I was looking for. The feature to change the tempo without changing the pitch is just what I have been looking for for our dance society.

I've actually used audacity for a while, and I must say I had fun with it...

... until I got Cool Edit. But it's not free...
