augment summoning

Few questions, is augment summoning worthwhile to a druid wanting to beef up and emphasize the summoning aspect?

If i remember right it requires spell focus (conjuration) which is pretty worthless, what do people think of changing the prereq, or changing the spell focus to something a bit better, like +1 caster level when casting conjuration spells?

Augment Summoning is very strong for Druids. If you plan on doing a lot of summoning, the two feats are worth it.

If you use the spell compendium the spell focus (conjuration) becomes much less of a throw away feat. This is because of great spells like Arc of Lightening. These conjuration spells give a point to the spell focus.

That being said, Nifft is absolutely correct. It is worthwhile even with the throw away feat.

Also, if you are playing with the Eberron material then there is a feat for druids that doubles the duration of your conjuration(summoning).

Or you could go Druid / Conjuror specialist / Arcane Heirophant (Races of the Wild). Summoning from both Druid and Wizard lists is nice, plus you can use Conjuror variants to get Augment Summoning without the prereq and the ability to cast Summon Monster spells as Standard actions (both variants from UA / SRD). There's also the Ice Beast stuff for Druid summoning from Frostburn. With that combo, you get extremely varied summoning options, Wizard side providing standard action summons, Druid side providing spontaneous summons (and the Ice Beast spells, which I think are separate spells you have to prepare).

Note you could do all of this with Mystic Theurge, but AH is just so much better! I think there's also another wizard/druid dual casting prestige class, Geographer or something.

I am not certain about multiclassing as a summoner. Its really a hard decision, since while you lose higher level summons, you gain versatility to have the right summon for the right situation.
