Austin, TX Game Day

Who should organize something like this? The best I could do is show up and play games. I could probably even drag along some unreleased games for playtesting.

It totally depends upon the date, of course, ubt I might be able to make a little trip. Hmm, I might drag Reiella along as well, if everything worked out well enough. I don't have any prizes to donate, but I'm a very good driver.

I haven't paid much attention to Game Days, because they're all so far away, but Austin be my home. What do we do at a Game Day? Just get together and run one-shots, run tournaments, what?

I'm an Austinite too. I'd definitely be interested.

I will contact Dave at Dragon's Lair and see about holding a EN World Game day there. Perhaps we can get some organized games going if someone would be willing to DM a one off. We can also do some board gaming.

MEG will be glad to have some prizes available. We will see how it goes soon and I will post something here.

I hope we can get this going, Game Days are really fun.

To answer the question about how to organize them, you basically just set up a thread here that will attract Austin gamers. One person should be in charge of keeping updates on who will run games, and who is going to play in those games. Posting 2 time slots is usually a good idea as well.

Board Games sound fun, Doug, you still owe me a game from Gencon, you sick bastard. :)

I would attend a game day in Austin, as long as I have no conflicts. And I can probably get another person from my gaming group to come as well.

If people are interested in playing one-offs of games they don't usually play, I might be persuaded to run a Traveller d20 demo, probably the same one I ran at the recent ENWorld game day in Arlington (I don't have time to make up another :))

I'd be most interested in playing in games I don't normally play in. Or, if Ari were to run some sick Scarred Lands stuff, I'd be all over it because I love Scarred Lands... and umm, Ari, would you mind signing a book or two, and Wil too, if you guys go? I am assuming you writer/publisher types bring a box of junk to sell or trade or whatever as well... That'd be cool. I might actually pick up a couple of things if certain people make it and I have some dough.

So, to sum up, All for games I'm not used to like Traveller and some board games. All into some signings if people don;t mind me bugging them, and nito buying more crap, because one can never have too much crap!

I've got no objection to signing anything you put in front of me. Well, so long as it isn't a blank check or contract, or something like that. ;)

As far as running a game... Put me down for a "maybe." Every time I try to run a one-shot game, it ends up taking longer than I expected and turning into a two-parter--and as often as not, we never have the chance to finish. (Joe Carriker and Colin Suleiman will tell you that they're still hanging from GenCon.)

Let me give it some thought, see if I can come up with something that I feel I can actually have done in a reasonable amount of time.

Truth is, though, I also have to decide if I'm up to it. Honestly, the most appealing thing to me about a game-day is the chance to play, since I run most of the games for my own group. So I may just decide I want to be a good old-fashioned PC all day. :)
