Auto Upgrading Feat

But you have more feats to throw around, so it all balances out.
If this is IH, not really that many... you get 1 feat every 2 levels, and 3 at 1st level, which is a total of 13. A human in D&D gets 8 not counting bonus feats from classes, so that's 5 extra. Compared to all the feats that are available in IH, more likely than not you'll be feeling there aren't enough slots to go around.

Now by contrast, SKILLS! You can easily have more skill points than you know what to do with.

But several of the classes get either tons of cool class abilities, or a stack of extra feats built into them. Also, IH PCs get 2 feats at first level and up to 2 traits, which are like feats, but better.

Why not have the feats the Fighter can choose as bonus feats have a special fighter use.

For example, say he chooses Cleave, then why not say when he gains X Levels he automatically gains the use of the Great Cleave feats at no cost in Bonus Feats. Kinda like a virtual feats for all purposes. But make this a fighter only thing. So other classes still must take the Great Cleave feat.

i like this idea and FireLance's examples, dont some eberron & psionic feats work like this too?

i wouldnt remove improved/greater feats all together (as options for all classes or multiclass fighters) but this could be a great way to distinguish the fighter and make pure fighter a bit more desirable (read: desirable at all)

its unbalanced, unless you give it to all classes and not just fighters. Rangers, for example, have this sort of thing as a Class ability Bonus feats as a class on top of a ranger's class ability? Unbalanced.

Surly some one will recognize this?

This has been done on the wizard boards. Look on the class boards for something like 'feat founded fighter fix vol 2' Something like that. It’s a lot to read though.

DungeonMaester, I'm not sure what you're arguing. You seem to say that all classes should gain this benefit, but then you seem to say it would be unbalanced for the ranger. Or am I misreading?

Some feats already scale (leadership and superior unarmed off the top of my head).

Kaus posted this on another thread:

Two-Weapon Defense could provide +1 AC (+2 if you have Improved 2WF,+3 if you have Greater 2WF).

Greater 2WF should just give your secondary weapon the same number of iterative attacks you have with your primary one.

Deflect Arrows could let you negate one attack per round, and if you have the prerequisites, you can snatch the arrow instead and fire it back if you possess the appropriate weapon.

Spell Focus should give +1 to save DC for a school of magic (increase to +2 when your Caster Level is 10th, and to +3 when your Caster Level is 20th).

Close. As Hong said before, that is what the fighter's bonus feats are for. If you pile on auto upgrading feats on top of bonus feats, then its unbalanced to the rest of the classes. However, If all classes had there feats auto upgraded then it would be balanced.

Share.
