Avadnu Primer?

Let me add, that the creature mechanics are so cool and original! There is also a section under most of the entries that details uses for their parts!

Can't wait to throw a Voidspawn creature on some unexpecting pcs!!!!!

Those art previews look gorgeous!

Thanks. I'll pass that along. Wait till you see our world map. We went for an old earth look like the map of Middle Earth from Lord of the Rings. I personally don't like when setting maps are all glitzy. I want to hold something that looks like it came from the world which I think we've accomplished.

I'm really curious about the world behind it :). Just do whatever doesn't ruin you financially. Even Monte Cook had to wait some time until he was able to put out AU/AE in colour.

We won't. That's why we are going the PDF route at first.

I'll need to show my Editor this, because we were just arguing last night because he thought our mechanics were pretty standard. That's one thing we really tried to do with each monster which is present them in a unique way mechanically. Also, one unknown design element, we made sure if you were pillaging the creature's body the items you can create or get are appropiate in the treasure tables for the monsters CR. That way its not unbalanced. We have a lot of cool gear and nifty new rule mechanics in the Primer. Just hold out a bit longer. . .

Inner Circle is definitely one of the unsung masters of d20. I'm quite pleased to be involved in my own small way. Let the buyer beware that they will be forever hooked on the company's product lines after reading through Denizens of Avadnu.

Oh, sure...make me the villain!

To defend myself here, my point was that Denizens--as pleased as I am with it, overall--doesn't cover much new mechanical ground. No new subsystems or variations on existing systems, etc.; mechanically, you could jumble up the monsters with those from the MM and they'd all fit together. This was intentional, of course, so it's not a bad thing!

The Primer, on the other hand, deals much more with new d20 subsystems. Part of that is utilizing underused existing systems (taint, for example); part is stretching and modifying standard parts of the game (classes and class abilities, regional and racial abilities); and part involves entirely new systems. I'm particularly proud of the way we reward players mechanically for making religion part of their PCs' lives.

Plus, you know, there's the actual setting. We managed to cram that into the book somehow, too....

I really think anyone who likes monster books should own a copy of Denizens of Avadnu. I can say without hesitation, it is really that good!

To be honest, I had heard a lot of great things about Denizens of Avadnu (esp. here on EN World), but never bothered to buy a copy myself. Then I got one as we were having The Inner Circle join Indie Press Revolution and I was blown away by the production values of this book. I am not exaggerating. Denizens of Avadnu is expertly made. It's COLOR, COLOR, and more COLOR! The binding is perfect, too.

My favorite part though are the adventure hooks for each monster. There are some really interesting creatures and humanoids in this thing and every one of them includes a story plot. These adventure hooks are well-written and make me want to think of ways to incorporate each monster into my game. I have to say Denizens of Avadnu is a must-have and I am still amazed that an indie publisher could produce this!

Thanks Ed. Honestly, if you think DoA is good you haven't seen anything yet. The production values and the artwork of the Primer blow it out of the water.

When can we expect Denizens of Avadnu in pdf format? While the book looks like it's beautifull, it's a bit expensive to special order on impulse (shipping ain't cheap to europe). Not only would a pdf be cheaper, it would also be easier to use for me (copy/paste to creat a quick monster sheet).

Good question. We currently have all of the Challenge Rating One monsters in PDF. You can get that via our website by following the link in my signature. As to a compiled version of Denizens of Avadnu in PDF, its in the works and will be available through DriveThruRPG very soon. We will have an announcement when it is available.
