My friend and I worked on this for a bit. My friend doesn't post on here, but I'd like some feedback on this. So, what do all of you think? If someone requests it, I will post the file up instead of just leaving it as a document to download.
The premise of the game is that while there is "standard" magic, i.e. stuff from the PHB, in the world, there is also a new style of magic - Avatar magic. This system uses the rules from Natural 20 Press's "Elements of Magic" system. An Avatar is a creature a caster binds as his or her conduit through which magic is cast. While some creatures will put up no fight, more powerful creatures, such as a dragon or vampire, might object to being bound. A hopeful Mage would have to defeat the creature in some way, ranging from physical combat to a contest of riddles.
That's not a very good description, but I was just wondering what my fellow ENeighbors thought about it, rules-wise and fluff-wise. The idea came about as some sort of combination of the "calling" magic from various Final Fantasy games, a desire to deviate from what was a rut we had gotten in in our various campaigns, and a little too much free time. Anyway, enough chatter. Here it is.
