Avoiding Cursed Items?

First Post
Is there any way to avoid the 5% chance of an item that you make is cursed?

Is this in the Books my DM says so but I'll be hornswagled if I can find it?

DMG pgs 178 and 231. However, it talks about RANDOM treasure magic items:D Still he is DM and whathe says goes. I personally like the idea of cursed items not specifacally made that way. The curses in the DMG and from Dragon mag CD-Rom are pretty tame but just what I look for:p IMC there is no way to avoid making a cursed item other than not making one or not rolling the 5%.

There is no chance that you can make a cursed magic item accidentally, unless your DM house rules it.

No.

He needs to read the DMG more closely.

That's because it's not there. It only applies to found treasure.

Whiners & Cursed Items

Actually, if you read the first sentence of the section of the DMG dealing with cursed items, it specifically mentions things going wrong during item creation. I see no reason this should be true for the rest of the world while PCs are immune. Besides, it's a flavor thing. Any DM is well within his rights to impose such a rule. Anyone who thinks otherwise can send me a SASE and I'll send ya a slice of cheese to go with your WHINE.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that only applies to randomly generated treasure.

See previous answer.

No. If you apply that to items created by PCs, it's a house rule.

Of course, as any DM can rule-0, and a DM would have to rule-0 if he/she wanted items created by PCs to have a chance of being cursed.

Put me on that list.

I have a better idea. How about I tell you how the rules actually work and you sit back and think about it for a while? :D

Seriously though, while having PCs create cursed items is a fine house rule, I do not think it is a fair interpretation of the DMG entry on the matter.

The DMG talks about mistakes during creation as one of a long list of possible causes. That implies they have are talking about found items.

They also do not mention the possibility of curses in the sections on creating items.
