Avoral Shapechange

How many hit points can a player shapechanged into avoral heal?

The avoral has lay on hands, which it can use to heal its full normal hit points. When a character casts shapechange, it can take the form of an avoral, and it gains its supernatural abilities. How many hit points should it be able to heal?

Also, this is another issue that just occurred to me: let's say the char uses his full allotment of lay on hands hit points per day after turning into an avoral. Can he then turn into another avoral, and get a new use of lay on hands? If so, can he do it directly or does he need to turn into something else in between?

Update: The DM has weighed in and stated that the caster only gets one allotment of avoral lay on hands hit points per day - even if another spell is used to turn into an avoral. Thoughts and comments?

I think it would be odd if shapechange turned you into the same avoral each time. But I do not yet have a good enough answer for your poll.

I would rule that it'd heal the character's hp, as his hp does not change in the slightest from the shapechange, regardless of the monster's con, or even whether or not his own con-boosting item gets melded into the form (not sure on that).

Also, I'd say the character has a daily pool of x hp, x being his normal maximum. No matter how many spells he uses, or how many turns during any one casting he spends in Avoral form, his total usage per day cannot exceed x. I have absolutely no RAW back up for that, though. Purely for balance. (And because any other ruling, and my DM would either ban or nerf the spell before my poor character got to a high enough level to learn it. -_-)

And why can't the spell be interpretted as turning you into the same avoral each time? That's how I've always interpretted it.

I, too, believe it turns you into an Avoral.. But your spirit is still YOU, and thus even if you turned into an Avoral multiple times, you'd still have used up 'your' abilities. You're not turning into a SPECIFIC Avoral (Shapechange specifically states you can't), more an avoral version of you. Same would be true for any other creature that has an ability X times per day.

As for how many HP, the avoral's ability "heals itself for it's full normal hp"... which, in this case, is YOUR full normal hp..

that's IMO.

Why bother? Shapechange into a Glabrezu instead and abuse wish. Just make sure you bring a mortal friend... or a Familiar. ;)

Cheers, -- N

Of course you shapechange into the same avoral each time: The avoral that is you!

What if you turn into another creature with the same ability?
You are still you, and you have still already used up the ability fo the day.
