Cool. I'll have to scare up a copy of that and take a look; I've been trying to figure out ways to redo the 3E magic creation system and looking at as many previous versions as I can find...
 


I've been fiddling with a mass combat system, trying to get all the relevant info (lots of tables) on one side of paper. It preserves the Basic D&D combat mechanic (mostly), but is scaled to averages.

Basic/Expert D&D does have mass combat rules, you know.
I think I've got the Rules Cyclopedia tucked away in my archives: not sure what the rules are about public posting of abandonware, but fair use should allow a good summary.
As I recall, you picked a tactic for each side, related them, and then rolled some dice to determine wins/loss and casualties.
 

I've been lurking in this thread, since I no longer possess any of the B/X rules (lots of the modules, though)...but I'm getting a lot of great usable ideas here for my other campaigns. Please keep up the good work!
 

If this is going to be a PBP and there's room for one more I'd love to get in on it.. :)

Looks good, low magic/low power makes for better games imho, makes characters more special and their achievements more meaningful.
