It totally pains me to admit this, but, my Basic book is actually missing some pages out of the center of the book, and that includes dragons. :( Very sad.

Totally don't have my books here. How big is a Basic/Expert blue dragon?

Unfortunately, neither the Moldvay nor Mentzer basic books say, other than "older dragons are bigger".

It is interesting to note than in 3E/4E a gargantuan dragon would easily fit (only taking up about 20 ft. square), and even a colossal dragon would have some wiggle room (taking up 30 ft. square).

It'd be the halls in and out of that room that'd be problematic...

If anything, it cries out to be the starting place for a Dungeon Master's homebrew campaign world!

Or the starting point in their Greyhawk (or whatever published world) campaign.

For me, it's where the campaign began, and that's at the edge of Bissel, the Yatils, Highfolk, and Veluna. Technically in Bissel, but just barely . . .

In my mind, they're dragons. So, FRICKIN' HUUUUGE!

The first page in the moldvay basic book has a red dragon lighting up an adventuring party, and to my mind, that is about the right size.

I mean, I guess you can claim they are the size as seen in some of the Saint George paintings:

But really, who the hell wants to fight a snake-lizard-dog?

Now for the reason I came back:

Check out the cool ISO view map this guy did of the Caves of Chaos:
