BAB to Skill based?

Yeah me too, thats why in my game you average you Str with your Dex for melee bonus
(Str bonus still adds straight to damage though)

Ranged combat will be Dex and Wis or Int, not decided yet

One of my favorite non-d20 games uses Dex for all weapon aiming, and Str for all damage bonuses. I think part of my problem with Str helping with both aiming and damage in d20 system games is that then you're adding the same bonus twice.

Well I don't tend to play d20
Can't stand levels till I looked at them as CP's a la GURPS
Can't stand hit points until I looked at them as Mythic fate,
Can't stand BAB, so going to fix it ;)

Played lots n lots of rpg's got well over 100 in my collection,

two thing got me looking at d20 again,
1) someone really wanted me to run a Dragonlance game,
2) I started to wonder what I would do if this was going to be 4th edition, and what it would take for me to play it, the end result was something alot more simple that made more sense

hey theres a whole thread in that last one, see you over at General RPG Discussion ;)

I like your skill clusters, very nice, ;)

but was thinking of making everyone have the same sort of skill dice to roll for skill points + Int, it would be down to your character how you would choose to spend them, but you would automatically get your class skills starting at zero (and not at a penatly has with the other skills)

p,s Saved the link to favs ;)
Skill Dice? As in a varient of the HD? That sounds a bit odd to me for some reason...

No, rolled like HD,
skill points are fixed at a standard rate in the game, never thought it made alot of sense, anyhow, for the amount of points needed for my system I thought it would be better to have a number of skill dice SD (along the lines of HD for HP's) to roll for the amount of skill point you get each level

Personally I don't like that idea. The fact that potentially, a sorcerer could gain more "skill points" than a fighter at a given level seems bit odd to me...

But you're okay with the sorcerer being able to rolling higher hit points than the fighter?

why?

I don't like it. We use the optional 1/2HD at even numbers, and 1/2+1HD at odd levels.

While this could be done with skills, it doesn't seem practical. Its too odd compared to the normal skills. Thats just my opinion and two cents, so yeah.

But this isn't the normal skill system, this is new,
and it's not that odd, you could use the same system you just described for HP's,
it could be you're just too use to the old way,

I could be, but as I said before, thats just me.

Okay, but it would have been nice to have some sort of constructive criticism instead of just cuz, was there a reason outside personal taste?,
anything wrong with the idea?
