BAB vs AC? (I know not again)

give them an AC advancement,

start at ac +0

Good, +1/2 levels
Fair, +1/3 levels
Poor, +1/4 levels

Any with good BaB progression get good AC, any with fair BaB get fair AC and any with poor BaB get poor BaB.

kramis I have played GURPS for over ten years and I don't think a system like theirs would fly with my players. Though they are all adults they are somewhat insecure with rules other than those in the books and I think getting to GURPS-like will just confuse them. What I need is a quick and simple patch. Another idea I have had is to reduce the BAB for the classes as AC is not going to be getting very high.

I wouldn't worry about the AC progression in a low magic game.

Even normal AC will be useful until at least 6th level. Once the fighter-types hit sixth level, they will have expertise or power attack to lower their BAB, and they will also have iterative attacks with lower BAB.

I would expect to see more use of the Expertise feat and the Power Attack feat by fighter types in a low magic game, as they are much more effective in low magic worlds.

I wouldn't give the feats out for free, either, because that is a little unbalancing.

I figure the normal AC is going to be something like chain mail and shield. Knights (and the wealthy) wearing plate and shield. Enchanted armor will be found on heros of the realms (which the PC's won't be for awhile). I need a way to prevent AC from pretty much being useless against the rapid increase in ability to hit as levels increase.
